Identity
Multi-factor authentication, conditional access, Entra ID governance and regular reviews of privileged access.

Asset management IT means two things in financial services: running the technology of asset managers, advisers, insurers and fintechs, and keeping a verified register of every IT asset they own. Arke Technologies, in Johannesburg, does both for South African firms, with security controls and evidence mapped to the FSCA and Prudential Authority Joint Standards.
Financial services IT, or IT for financial services, is the technology, support and security behind firms that manage, advise on, insure or move other people's money. In South Africa that includes asset and wealth managers, discretionary and advisory financial services providers, insurers and brokers, lenders, fintech companies, and payroll and administration bureaux.
Their IT answers to regulators, auditors and clients whose money attracts criminals, so financial services IT support has to produce evidence as well as fixes. We provide it under one SLA, alongside your in-house team or as a full managed IT service.

We work to the rules a South African financial institution's IT must meet:

Cybersecurity for financial services starts with the controls attackers test first:
Multi-factor authentication, conditional access, Entra ID governance and regular reviews of privileged access.

SPF, DKIM and DMARC, email security filtering, and a rule that changed bank details are confirmed by phone.

Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel collect and correlate security events; monitoring is automated and continuous, and human response follows your SLA. See managed detection and response.

Vulnerability identification in cyber security means scanning on a schedule, penetration testing that we scope, perform and retest, and remediation tracked to closure.
Data encrypted in transit and at rest. We inventory each digital certificate in network security, for websites, VPNs and email, and renew it before it expires.

Backups isolated from the production network and restore-tested, and incident response plans rehearsed before they are needed.
Our managed security operations in South Africa cover Microsoft 365 hardening, Microsoft Sentinel and Entra ID governance.
IT asset management (ITAM) is the discipline of knowing every device, software licence and cloud service a firm owns or pays for: where it is, who uses it, what state it is in, and when it must be renewed or retired. The IT asset management definition is simple. Doing it in a regulated firm is not, because an asset nobody knows about cannot be patched, licensed or wiped.
Asset management in cyber security, and asset management in information security, are the same discipline seen through risk. The CIS Controls open with inventories of hardware and software, and ISO/IEC 27001 requires an inventory of information and associated assets. Asset management for IT hardware adds the lifecycle: procurement, warranty, reassignment and secure disposal.
In an asset management company the phrase covers both the firm's IT and its asset register. Digital asset management is different again: software for storing and finding media files.

| Role | IT asset management responsibilities |
|---|---|
| Business asset owner | Approves the need, accepts the risk, confirms users at each review |
| IT asset management lead | Keeps the register, reconciles it against discovery data, tracks warranties and renewals |
| Service desk | Issues, reassigns and collects devices, and updates the record at every move |
| Security | Uses the inventory for patching, vulnerability scanning and incident response |
| Finance and procurement | Ties assets to purchase orders, the fixed-asset register and licence spend |
| Arke, under a managed service | Runs discovery and monitoring, maintains the register, reports monthly |
| Option | Suits | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Asset features in your device-management platform (Microsoft Intune, Google endpoint management) | Firms already on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace | Covers managed endpoints; servers, network devices and licences need more |
| Free IT asset management software and open-source IT asset management software | Small teams with technical capacity | Hosting, patching, backups and support become your job; check the audit trail |
| Enterprise IT asset management software | Larger firms with many sites, contracts and software audits | Licence cost, implementation effort and integration with finance |
| A managed IT asset management system, run for you | Firms that want the register kept current without a dedicated post | Confirm you own the data and can export it at exit |
The best IT asset management software is the one your team will keep current. We run IT asset management solutions as part of device and IT asset management, and supply hardware with local warranty through Server Hub, our hardware division.
Regulated firms ask suppliers for certificates. Knowing what each one proves avoids two mistakes: trusting a logo too far, and missing a gap.
| Certificate or certification | What it proves | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| ISO/IEC 27001 (organisation) | An information security management system audited by a certification body; valid for three years, with surveillance audits each year | The certificate and its scope, or evidence of aligned controls |
| ISO/IEC 27017 and 27018 | Cloud security controls, and protection of personal data in public cloud | From any provider hosting your data |
| B-BBEE certificate or sworn affidavit | B-BBEE level: a certificate from a SANAS-accredited verification agency, or a sworn affidavit for qualifying smaller entities | For your own scorecard |
| Cyber security certifications (for example CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+) | An exam passed, and for some, verified experience | Who holds them on your account |
| Certifications for IT support (for example CompTIA A+, Microsoft role-based certifications) | Baseline support and platform skills | How they pair with experience |
| Project management certification (for example PMP, the Google Project Management Certificate) | Method knowledge; PMP also needs documented project experience | Who manages your projects |
Is a certification for cyber security worth it? For a buyer, it proves a baseline, not judgement. The Higher Certificate in IT Support Services, the Higher Certificate in Software Development and the National Certificate: Information Technology: End User Computing are common local starting points, and vendor certifications build on them. The most valuable certifications for software developers match your platforms, and the same test applies to newer credentials such as Google Cloud's Generative AI Leader certification. We hire technicians for experience, education and certifications, in step with the contracts we sign.
Arke Technologies is not ISO 27001 certified. Our controls are aligned with ISO/IEC 27001, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and the CIS Controls, and we show you the evidence. If you are pursuing ISO certification for information security, data security or cloud security yourself, ISO 27001 readiness prepares you for the audit, and our ISO 27001 certification guide explains the cost, time and steps.
What is fintech software? Any application where money or financial data moves: client portals, onboarding apps, payment flows, lending engines and reporting platforms. The build standard matters more than the feature list.
Our software development team delivers custom fintech software development: web applications, APIs, mobile apps and payment gateway integration with PayFast, Yoco, Paystack, Peach Payments and Stripe, with audit trails, role-based access, encryption and POPIA controls from the first sprint. We built the Server Hub commerce platform, which takes PayFast and Yoco payments, and the ESGnet reporting platform for investor-facing sustainability reporting aligned with GRI and SASB.
When you compare fintech software companies or banking software development companies, ask who owns the code, how releases are approved, how keys are held, and how a security finding is handled. A credible provider answers each question in writing.
AI banking solutions work best on narrow, auditable jobs: reading onboarding documents for FICA, summarising client files, drafting replies for an adviser to approve. We build them on the principle that AI recommends and people decide, with every AI action logged. See AI consulting and implementation.

We price managed IT per user per month, set after an assessment, and quote projects such as a SIEM deployment or a fintech build per project. Published South African managed IT rates run from about R180 to R400 per user per month (matnet.co.za, September 2026), with some providers listing R450 (MiBOT, September 2026). Published hourly rates for IT project work run from about R550 to R750 ex VAT (matnet.co.za, September 2026).
What drives the price is the number of users and sites, the evidence your regulator and auditors expect, security log volumes, penetration-testing scope and the number of systems to integrate. A finance director weighing whether managed IT is worth it can think of a car maintenance plan rather than insurance: the value lies in scheduled servicing that prevents the breakdown, not only in paying for help afterwards.

B-BBEE contributor

Financial services IT is the technology, support and security behind firms that manage, advise on, insure or move money: asset managers, advisers, insurers, lenders, fintechs and bureaux. It differs from ordinary IT because regulators, auditors and clients expect evidence of control. In South Africa that means working to the FSCA and Prudential Authority Joint Standards, FICA, FAIS and POPIA.
Asset management in IT, or IT asset management, is keeping an accurate register of every device, software licence and cloud service a firm owns or pays for, with its user, state, warranty and renewal date. It underpins security, because unknown assets go unpatched, and it controls cost, because unused licences are found and cancelled. We run it as part of our managed service.
No ISO certification is legally required for an IT company in South Africa. ISO/IEC 27001, for information security management, is the one regulated clients usually ask suppliers about; ISO 9001 covers quality management and ISO/IEC 20000-1 covers IT service management. Arke is not ISO 27001 certified: our controls are aligned with it, and we show clients the evidence.
The ISO 27001 certification validity period is three years, with surveillance audits by the certification body in each year and a recertification audit before the certificate expires. It means an accredited certification body found that the organisation runs an information security management system meeting the standard, within the scope printed on the certificate. Always check that scope.
The main financial services cybersecurity regulations are Joint Standard 2 of 2024 on cybersecurity and cyber resilience, in force since 1 June 2025, and Joint Standard 1 of 2023 on IT governance and risk management, both from the Prudential Authority and the FSCA. FICA, FAIS and POPIA add duties on client data, records and breach reporting.
Free IT asset management software can work for a small team with the skills to host, patch and back it up, but the tool is rarely the hard part; the discipline is. That means recording every move, reconciling against discovery data and reviewing the register. Regulated firms also need an audit trail, which some free tools lack.
IT support for a financial services firm is usually priced per user per month. Published South African managed IT rates run from about R180 to R400 per user per month (matnet.co.za, September 2026). The number of users and sites, the evidence your regulator expects, security monitoring and integration work move the price. We quote after an assessment.
We will review your controls against the Joint Standards, your asset register and your backups, and give your board a clear, costed plan. Talk to us or call 010 447 2445.
